Project 251: Honeymoon Edition

Before we headed off to the UK, we headed down to New Jersey to spend some time with one of Best Guy's oldest friends and his family, whom I had never met. We took off fairly early in the day with the intention of knocking off a few 251 towns on the way. After all, we had to drive through them anyway, why not?

After a couple harrowing miscalculations on my part behind the wheel, we managed to knock off five towns before leaving Vermont and heading in to New York. I present to you, the very start of our honeymoon:

142: Shoreham VT.

143: Orwell, VT.
144: Benson, VT. They apparently have a liberty bell replica. I've seen the original replica (wait, what?) in Philadelphia and let me tell you, not the awe-inspiring thing everyone makes it out to be. It's a big bell with a crack in it. Yep.

145: West Haven, VT.
Me:  "No, BG, I don't like it when we take pictures of paper signs. There are better signs. I don't want to do this one."
BG: "Okay okay, just let me take this picture."
Me: bangs head on door.

146: Fair Haven.

UK Honeyswoon

We are back.

After 10+ days on the road, this past Saturday we pulled back into our driveway and were reunited with hearth, home, and pup.

It was an incredible experience. From meeting one of Best Guy's oldest friends, to watching him perform in another country to experiencing driving on the other side of the road, it was something I will never forget.

We started our trip by heading down to New Jersey to spend a couple days with one of Best Guy's oldest friends. We toured around, visiting old haunts and listening to favored music. It was a wonderful opportunity to really get a taste of BG's childhood. We even visited one of his old homes, and they were having a garage sale. He bought a kitschy old Halloween decoration and swears up and down it was left over from when they lived there. It is now in our living room window.

From there we took a red eye to Heathrow, and then rented a car and drove to Wales. BG did all of the driving while we were over there, and I am so proud of him. I was terrified every time I got into the car, but he took the challenge on and actually had fun. Well, except for the first half hour when he kept running into the curb on the left and those harrowing "roads" barely wide enough for one car yet had two lanes of traffic.

Fun times.

We spent a few days in Chepstow Wales for the Summer's End Festival, where BG's band played that Sunday. What a rush! The band rented a gorgeous house with incredible views, and we all stayed together for several days.

On Monday, we all split up and the honeymoon really began. BG and I headed into Cardiff, where we stayed at a cute B&B with an unfortunately racist owner. :( Luckily she was only around just to check us in. While in Cardiff, we explored the castle, the waterfront - where both Doctor Who and Torchwood filmed scenes - saw a Squeeze concert, and ate good food.

On Wednesday, we left Wales for England, stopping at Cheddar Gorge on our way to Glastonbury, where we stayed for a couple days. Cheddar Gorge was incredible, and I'm not just talking about the cheese. There are a lot of caves there, and you can take a tour. I took a ton of pictures, but they don't do the caves justice. Awe inspiring. There was also a hike you could do around the top of the Gorge, but we didn't get very far as we got chased by a goat.

We spent a couple days in Glastonbury, where I got my hippy on and Best Guy was pretty bored by the whole thing. Well, except for the hike up to the Tor. We lucked out and had gorgeous weather there, and the views were exceptional.

On our final day in the UK, we started the trip back to Heathrow by way of Avebury. Avebury also has a henge - a much larger and more complex one than Stone Henge, and the best part is you can just walk through the fields and touch them and hang out with them. Heck, people graze their sheep around them. We spent the night in Windsor, and left some time to explore the area. I wish I'd known there was so much there I'd have left us more time.

Saturday morning, we flew out of Heathrow and arrived back in the States around 1pm. From there, we drove six hours to spend the night in our own bed. It was glorious.

We are still on UK time now, which works out well for us in the morning, but not so much so in the evenings. We are back to reality today, with BG already at work and I preparing for the day as well. It was magical, being able to spend so much uninterrupted time together. We've been together for just over three years now, and the more time I spent with Best Guy, the more time I want to spend with him. This honeymoon was long in coming, but boy did we make the most of it!

We leave tomorrow.

We'll be leaving bright and early tomorrow morning, heading down to visit one of Best Guy's old childhood friends for a day or so. On the way we will pick off a few 251's, although I probably won't blog it until we return in a couple weeks.

Thursday evening we fly out. Friday morning, we arrive.

May it ever stay attached to the Queen's Body.

This morning, I have a 2-hour hot stone scheduled for myself. Because taking care of me is important too. I have been looking forward to it for a solid month now. Hot stones massages are my absolute favorite, and I am lucky enough to be able to schedule it with one of my favorite people. Working in the industry really has its perks sometimes.

When I get home this afternoon, the packing begins. We've got a tiny amount of space, and some of it has already been taken up by merch we're bringing in. If anyone asks, we're giving it away not selling it. Because lord knows none of it is coming back with us. I will be packing with a glass of wine, because I learned a long time ago that is the best way to pack. I may not be able to find anything and wonder why I brought a bathing suit to England, but wine.

All pictures have been removed from my phone card (well, nearly all. There are a few that will never be removed if I have anything to say about it). I have plenty of memory now to take as many pictures as possible.

Taken in Guildford, England in 2009. Expect 653 more pictures that look exactly like this in about 10 days.

What an experience we will be having. Best Guy's band will be playing at a Festival in Wales. We will be driving around the Welsh and British countryside. We will do touristy things and eat a lot of cheese. And since we're heading into the country that perfected Cider before it was a thing here in the States, we will be availing ourselves of the many options afforded us (*hic*).

Welcome, Honeymoon.

Last Chance.
