This past Thursday was Thanksgiving, and we went up to my Mom's house for the day. It was a pretty quiet Thanksgiving, all told. Just me, Best Guy, Mom, Brother and Sister-Out-Law. We ate a lot, laughed a lot, and had a lovely family day.
It gave us a lot to be grateful for, and on the way home we unfortunately had a lot more to be grateful for. This is what running into a deer at 55mph on the interstate at 7pm looks like.
Best Guy, Toby, and myself are all very much okay. Watching the deer scramble off the road on a broken leg and probable internal injuries was possibly the most heartbreaking and traumatic thing I've seen in a very long time, however.
This could have been a lot worse. The cars behind us could have been closer. We could have been going faster. We were able to get off the interstate and drive home.
WE WERE ABLE TO GO HOME, UNHURT.
After we got home, we started the process of submitting to insurance. Luckily, we have good insurance and you can do a lot online. O…
Last week, we decided it was time to knock off some of the most difficult towns in our 251 Project. We made an entire weekend out of it: we took off to Newport after work Friday night to spend the weekend at my Mom's. From there, we spent all of Saturday tooling around the most sparsely populated section of Vermont. We managed a new record for towns visited in one day: 16. On Sunday, we headed back home and knocked a few more towns off on the way. We passed the halfway point of our adventure, got another corner piece, and visited a whopping 20 towns in one weekend.
Oh, and on Sunday after we got home and had lunch we bought a new car.
We got rid of Veronica the Ford as she wasn't going to hold out much longer anyway. I am inheriting Best Guy's old car (who has informed me his name is Bob), and BG is using the brand spanking new fully electric car as his main commuting vehicle. Because of its 100-mile charging radius we probably won't use the as yet unn…
After 10+ days on the road, this past Saturday we pulled back into our driveway and were reunited with hearth, home, and pup.
It was an incredible experience. From meeting one of Best Guy's oldest friends, to watching him perform in another country to experiencing driving on the other side of the road, it was something I will never forget.
We started our trip by heading down to New Jersey to spend a couple days with one of Best Guy's oldest friends. We toured around, visiting old haunts and listening to favored music. It was a wonderful opportunity to really get a taste of BG's childhood. We even visited one of his old homes, and they were having a garage sale. He bought a kitschy old Halloween decoration and swears up and down it was left over from when they lived there. It is now in our living room window.
From there we took a red eye to Heathrow, and then rented a car and drove to Wales. BG did all of the driving while we were over there, and I am so proud …
